Childhood Games inaugurated Cristina Grajales Gallery’s new space in New York City’s NoMad neighborhood with a two-artist show featuring new work by Stefan Bishop and by us, Steven and William Ladd.

For this exhibition, we presented six new textile landscape pieces, a massive chandelier, and beaded curtains. These works continued our exploration of memory, material, and storytelling—each one a portal into the whimsical, emotional terrain of childhood.

A signature element of our practice is the use of hand-sewn boxes that open to reveal intricately constructed environments. In this show, the boxes became sculptural towers, transformed through performance into sprawling textile landscapes. As ever, the materials were rich with history—many of them found or repurposed—and each scroll, bead, and stitch became part of a collective memoryscape.

This exhibition marked an exciting new chapter for us at Cristina Grajales Gallery, which has long been a creative home and source of support in our journey as artists.
