Artistic Approach
Over the course of the program, participants rolled, and pinned fabric scrolls around a wooden dowel customized to represent them—into a collective sculpture. The resulting work, Interconnected, embodies the spirit of connection and mutual support central to both Scrollathon and the Ulrich Museum’s community mission. The Portrait Mural and Signature Plate further document each participant’s role, forming a portrait of Kansas creativity.
Commission Overview
Commissioned by the Ulrich Museum of Art at Wichita State University, Interconnected was created as Kansas’s contribution to America’s Cultural Project and the national goal of uniting communities through art. On October 2, 2025, 116 participants from across Kansas gathered for a day of Scrollathon workshops, creating individual artworks and contributing to a Collaborative Masterwork, Portrait Mural, and Signature Plate that now represent Kansas in the National Scrollathon.
Engagement and Impact
The Kansas Scrollathon brought together 116 participants spanning students, educators, artists, and community members. Hosted by the Ulrich Museum, the program fostered collaboration across generations and disciplines, emphasizing the beauty and strength of shared creative experience.
